Hiking for the first time

Leah and I went to the Wichita Mountains Elk Mountain Trail. It's about a 2.4 mile round trip hike and we did it in about 2 hours. I know one mile per hour may not sound that impressive if you've never hiked a mountain (ie Me a week a go), but trust me - I'm impressed. This hike specifically was full of "rock hopping" and stair climbing. It was colder than anticipated, but luckily Leah had an extra jacket for me in her car. I made a vlog about it and thought I'd share some pictures with you guys too!

Here's Leah about half way up.
Here's me at the Summit!
An antler I found when Leah and I got off the trail.
Here's us resting at the top of Elk Mountain!
So the hike up was really hard. If you watch my vlog you can definitely hear me huffing and puffing. A lot of the climb up was man made rock "steps" that were quite a ways up, not like normal human steps. Once you get to the summit, it's worth it though. The view was great but the feeling of accomplishment was even better. On the way back down, we got a little off course and ended up making our own trail thru some boulders. That was super cool too because I found an antler! Leah dubbed our course Antler Pass. We also saw a bison in the distance and were very careful to avoid getting any closer to him. It was such a beautiful day and such a great adventure to have!

On a more personal level, my first hiking trip was a success for me psychically. I'm constantly surprised at what my body will allow me to do. We hiked for two hours, burning around 1,200 calories. Oh, I'm sorry did you catch that? ONE THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED CALORIES. That's about what MyFitnessPal tells me I should eat in one day! My body has been sore in the days following, but it's not nearly as bad as I anticipated. The whole trip was eye opening. I can do so much more than I give myself credit for. So, thanks body and thanks nature!

Until Next Time,
