Fave OOTDs in June

Things I've been rocking a lot of this month - natural hair, glasses, iridescent everything, flat shoes.
Things I've been avoiding this month - zippers, my straightener, clothes that cling to me and make me sweaty.

June Instagram Roundup

We're coming to a close for this month and I wanted to share you with you my favorite Instagram moments from June. It's been a really great month with my birthday and lots of adventures. I have a lot more gems on my feed, but I decided to limit myself to my top 10. People love top 10 lists.

1. My birthday outfit + spinning.
2. I felt like such a hippie this day, this picture. I'm loving the dual frames lately.
3. I love this shadow play with little Cam and the seal I caught in the picture is my favorite! Plus this gorgeous blue is striking!
4. Some collaging I did back in the day. I want to get more into this!
5. Playing with makeup! I tried some purple mascara on my eye brows and black eyeliner on my lips! I felt like a completely different person in this makeup!

The Good Girl - book review

I finally finished the book in my purse!

I love going to Target and looking at books because they always have great recommendations. On one of my last Target ventures I found the the section that says "Like Gone Girl? Then, you'll love these!" There I found The Good Girl by Mary Kubica. This is the author's debut novel and I think a stunning entrance to the literary world. I found this story to be entertaining even while being a tad predictable. She kept me interested and racing towards the end of the book.

The story is written from different characters' points of view at different times in the story. You're working from the beginning and end toward the middle or the climax of the tale. You hear Eve, her mother's tale of feeling helpless at home.Gabe, the detective trying to fix everything for everyone. And Colin, the captor's story of internal and external struggle. At the beginning, it was a little muddled trying to keep up, but it sorted itself out about a quarter of the way in or so.

Kubica blurs the lines between "good" and "bad" guys, which is one of my favorite things. I don't believe that people are ever the whole of one characteristic. She delves into the character's pasts, showing how the sum of the events in our lives affect us but don't control us. Some people are saying that the story line takes on a bit of Stockholm Syndrome feel. I believe that people act differently in different situations. Most people just want to feel loved and safe. When placed in a situation that is out of their norm, things are likely to be a bit different. That being said, it's a freaking book - just go with it.

I would definitely recommend this book to you if you enjoyed Gone Girl; however, I am not saying it is as good as Gone Girl. If you want a book on Gone Girl's level, read Dark Places or Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. They're both amazing and written by the same author. If you're like me and have already read those and still would like to read more things The Good Girl is in fact a gripping read.

A tip I got from GoodReads that I cannot verify is that on the Kindle version, the chapters are not clearly marked. This makes the character and time jumping basically impossible to keep up with. Again, I can't speak for this but wanted to make sure it was mentioned just in case because that sounds awful.

Turning 26 - What I Did This Weekend

This weekend was just fab. Here's some pictures from eating at Andolini's Pizza where they make homemade mozzarella twice a day, sleeping over at the Oklahoma Aquarium where sharks swam over my head, hibachi with all of my best friends (minus my baby in NY), to Father's Day at Zarate's Latin Grill where we ate fried plantains and yucca fries.

SNS Nail Review

I do not get my nails done often. I actually went about six months without painting them at all. When I used to get them done, I was a huge fan of gel nails. I loved them so much in fact that my cousins got me a gel nail set for at home, which I can assure you, I have gotten their money's worth. When my friend at work showed me her new SNS Nails, I was very intrigued. There's no lights, it's all your nail underneath (like gel), odor free, and it has added calcium to it making it healthier for your nails. She showed me the SNS Nails website where they have a locator for salons.

I went to a salon and met a wonderful woman, Christine. She said this was her first time using the powder on a real person though she had been trained on the technique. There was an insane amount of colors to pick from and I settled on a vibrant summery orange. First she applied the gel base, then dip in powder, then repeat three times. The end result was really lumpy and weird. I'm not going to lie, I was worried. Then she brought out that terrifying sander thing that makes me think of the dentist, sanded them smooth, then filed. Then there's a top coat that she put on and told me to sit still. The whole process took 30 minutes, including the 5 minute sitting at the end.

Just Me

Tomorrow I turn 26. I have a lot of incredible people in my life and surrounding me that I've been thinking about a lot lately. And then I typed this. So, thanks everybody for helping to shape me into who I am today!

I am but One
One woman with the force of a thousand people behind her
The mother who taught me to love myself unconditionally
Who taught me to be soft and sharp and lovely
The father who taught me about music and poetry
Who taught me to take chances and follow my heart
The grandmother who taught me how much family means
Who showed me how to serve others without sacrificing myself
The best friend who blazed the trail for me
Who lead by example in marriage, motherhood, loss
The best friend who stood by me when I didn't believe in myself
Who encouraged me to get what I deserve, which was better than I was taking
The best friend who also happens to be my lover
Whose touch can calm me in an instant
The best friend that I can share anything with
Who inspires by living and encourages by accomplishing
The best friend who accomplished all her dreams
Then came up with more mountains to climb, always challenging herself
The best friend who learned to love herself by herself
Who's selfless and giving no matter what rocks life throws at her
The best friend who follows his heart no matter what
Whose voice is as close to heaven as I've ever been
The ex who encouraged me to be honest and comfortable with myself
Who I never really felt those things with, but planted the concept in my head
The friend who puts others first with her servants heart
Who taught me how to watch out for myself and care for others
The friend who is tough and guarded, witty but kind
Who taught me how to protect myself around those out to hurt me
The teacher who was encouraging and helpful
Who treated us like family for four years
The classmate who told me about another life as an FBI agent
Who helped me be curious and interested without judging
The boy I met in college that told me he loved me
Who taught me not to trust the words of the influenced
The cashier I met the other day who was kind for no reason
Who went out of her way to compliment my style
The strangers at the park who smiled while we fed the ducks
Who laughed with us at their cuteness
The ex who I dated in secret, who feel in love with me and my best friend
Who taught me that drama does not equal romance
The crowd at every concert who feel like home
Their voices mixing with mine as we move as one entity
One woman with a thousand people behind her
I am but One

Throwback Thursday

I thought it would be fun to not only show you adorable pictures of myself but also share with you some words I said in the past! So here's some old tweets from 2010 along with little Lauren pictures.

I don't remember falling asleep, but I know I was in your arms. I remember you and that's enough to take me down.

All this facebook foreplay, but in person - zilch.

I hate when the person you're supposed to meet is running really late and you get a facebook status update of their's on your phone.

16.9 oz. 20 calories. 10 min. Gotta love Sugar Free Redbull. So awake I'm shaking.

Top 5 Apps

I am on my phone a lot throughout the day. If we're being completely honest, my most used apps are Instagram, Messages, Mail, and recently Tumblr. I thought those were pretty standard though so here's my top five apps that you may not already know about! I do have an IPhone, but all of these apps are available on Android phones as well.
  1. Afterlight
    • This is my absolute favorite photo editing app. I use it for Instagram mostly, but I also use it for IOS pictures I put on my blog! It's easy to add the white sides which make every picture "square" with no cropping necessary! They also have great filters and I find it easier to change the settings for color, tone, sharpness, etc in this app as opposed to Instagram. You can easily open your newly edited pic in IG or save it to your camera roll for later.
  2. Tapped Out
    • I have been playing this game for years now. It's a Simpson themed tapping game. You just mindlessly tap and win money and donuts. You use the money and donuts to build buildings, get characters, and then those things give you more money and sometimes donuts. You can also visit other people's towns for, you guessed it, money and donuts. I spend a lot of time on this app and I'm not even embarrassed about it.
  3. Wunderlist
    • If you know me, you know I love lists. I love making them, checking things off, remaking them minus the checked things. Wunderlist in the ultimate app for me because Myke will use it too. We mostly use it for groceries, but we have lists for restaurants we want to try and movies we want to see. We use it to keep track of chores we need to do too. It's so great because sometimes we don't go to the grocery store together. It keeps us from double buying! We also have separate lists that we don't share that are like our to do lists. I have one for blog updates, post ideas, and just random chores.
  4. Voxer
    • This is basically an app that turns your phone into a walky talky. I only wish I could convince more people to get it, BUT my bof and wifey have it and it's perfection. I like that it's the ease of texting, but I get to hear your voice! I get to hear tones and laughter! Leah and I use it during the weekday mornings a lot to talk to each other on our drives to work! It's super nice because you don't have to say things like "Hold on, I need to merge" or "Hold on, I need to order my breakfast." You can take all the safe necessary breaks in conversation you need to!
  5. Fitbit
    • If you don't have a Fitbit then you will not like this app; however, if you do like me and also have to often keep it tucked away in your bra because you don't have pockets - this app is a lifesaver! This is the really the whole way I track my progress throughout the day with my fitbit safely snuggled in my bra. It will drain your battery quicker if you check it multiple times a day like me - so just keep that in mind! I don't mind charging it every night if I have to though - it's worth it to be able to check my fitness status.

Tell All

I asked you guys what you wanted to know about me and here's my answers!

What's been your greatest success and toughest struggle in the past year?
  • My greatest success over the past year has been definitely been job related. I started my current job a little over a year a go and I am so proud of all the personal strides I've made. I used to be a bit of a pushover, people pleaser in my younger years and now, I've found the balance between kind/helpful and still taking care of me. I also used to be afraid of talking to people, just in general. I didn't make eye contact, I didn't enjoy meeting new people because I was afraid they wouldn't like me. I for sure don't have that fear anymore!
  • My toughest struggle this year has been, welcome to the real world, money related. It's a shock being 25 (almost 26) and realizing I need to save money in case the washing machine breaks. It's shocking seeing plane ticket prices and looking at hotels in horror when I have a real rent to pay and responsibilities. It's been a huge eye opener for me since moving in with Myke. It's like I'm actually an adult now.

How do you stay self motivated?
  • What helps me is thinking about Future Lauren. Future Lauren is going to be really sad looking back that she didn't finish the Blog A Day In June challenge. Future Lauren is going to be sad when she gets a flat tire because she didn't go get her car looked at. Future Lauren is going to have a stomach ache if I eat six pieces of cake along with fried chicken. I have Future Lauren to thank for keeping me in check.

Do I have any regrets?
  •  I do not. I honestly believe that every decision I ever made, everything I've ever done has shaped me into this strong beautiful woman I am today. I wouldn't take any of it back.

How would I spend my last day?
  •  I'd make all my family (chosen and biological) take off work and spend the day with me. I would want to eat delicious food, homemade and not, and play with everyone's animals and babies.
Did I leave anything out that y'all are dying to know?

Until Next Time,

What's in my Purse?

So, I like when people post stuff like this because I'm really freaking nosey. If I could get in your homes and snoop around, I would. I don't want to take anything, I don't want to black mail you, I just want to know what you're doing! In the spirit of nosiness - here's what I'm carrying around in that giant sack all day!
